My awning sun blocker hack

Updated: Apr 29, 2024

Wow! When I conjured up this hack and shared it on the gram, I had no idea that so many of you would also think it was genius! I am still asked daily for the links, so it seemed sensible to create a blog post to refer you to, with clickable links to the products I used.

If you had a wind out awning and you're leaving the drab, rainy summer in the UK behind for sunnier settings in Europe, then this hack is for you! I decided not to spend hundreds of pounds buying a sun blocker, instead I found three simple items on Amazon and gave it a go.

Putting these items together is simple:

  1. With your awning fully wound out but without extending the legs up high, slide the awning hooks into the rail along the front of your awning (make sure you choose the right hooks for your awning- the link provided is for the fiamma wind out awning).

  2. Space them out along your awning and hook in the smaller side of the s hooks.

  3. Attach your claw clamps to the bedsheet. I didn't worry trying to space them to match the hooks hanging on the awning, as those can move to fit your sheet. Make sure you do the clamps up tightly, and attach two of them on the corners which will be pegged to the ground.

  4. Hook the claw clamps onto the hooks hanging on your awning, sliding the hooks along as appropriate according to the spacing of the clamps on the bedsheet.

  5. Extend the legs of your awning up high now, to the hight you would like to normally leave it at. Then peg in the claw clamps at the corners of the sheet to the ground.

  6. Ta daaaaaa!

  7. Take a photo and tag me on insta!
